Linking innate and adaptive immunity
Article Abstract:
Dendritic cells may be the link between the innate immune system and the adaptive immune system. The cells capture antigens and present them to T cells. They also secrete interferon and a 1999 report identifies precursor dendritic cells as the natural interferon-producing cells (IPCs).

Dendritic cells have become central to cancer immunotherapy research. Vaccination protocols, improved quality control, and study reporting standards need to be established before this promising tool can be fully utilized.
